Jeez. Every reply is followed by someone completely tearing into them, followed by back-biting and name calling. I think Tesla brings out the worst in us, lol.

All of the hate is completely out of place. There are legitimate reasons to disagree with those who are lining up, but the fact is that Tesla Fanboys represent a group of people who are passionate about a car. And here are Jalopnik readers, of all people, bashing them. Haters gonna hate, I guess.

There's also the fact that people want that $7500 tax credit that will halve once Tesla hits 100k vehicles sold.

Very angry bitter people. The good news, there is nothing that dire in their lives to be upset at so they are upset at something so arbitrary. The bad news, they are upset at something so arbitrary.

Right. So one could argue that they’re being passionate and smart. What terrible things.

I don’t think there are many Jalop readers that would put money down on a car sight unseen that they won’t get to drive for no one even knows how long. Could just be me but I doubt it.

Right. Like I said, there are plenty of reasons to disagree with the practice of actually lining up and putting money down on a car, sight unseen. But that doesn’t mean that it’s fair to “Hope that they don’t get their tax breaks”, as one of the popular comments suggests.

Not one of them, but given that it is fully refundable I see no issue in doing so. $1,000 is not very much to put out there for a day or two to see if you would even want it.

Agreed so why wait in line? Do you really want to be an early adopter of a car that isn’t even built yet? It’s more of a consumer culture decision than a car buying decision and that is what bothers me most. I wouldn’t dare try to explain that to front pagers. As far as I’m concerned the people in line are just sheep with money.

Well damn I thought that’s what you were supposed to do on the internet plus spout out facts that have no basis for your argument.

;)

Because you can be further up in the reservation list to get one than the people who sign up tonight. Not saying I’d do it. I’ve never waited in line for anything other than food and rides.

Out of curiosity, why does it bother you at all? I don’t understand why other people doing what they do with their lives, that has no impact on you, bothers you.

Maybe so, but that can said about a lot of people.

It might not impact me directly as of this very moment, but it does create a trend as Tesla already has an impact on how car sales are being changed for the future. Bother may have been too strong of a word, I’m merely people watching and laughing from afar.

Pshhhh, whatever. I will never stop gleefully referring to Tesla fans as NEEEEEEERDS, in the same way that I’ll never stop hearing (and making) mullet jokes about my Camaro.

You always gotta keep mind that the FP is populated entirely by 15 year old girls that just had their new iphones taken away.

If they just had their iphones taken away, then what are they posting on? Huh smart guy? Also, everybody knows there’s no girls on the internet, so that’s how I know you’re full of shit.

I can think of a few Jalop dream cars that a bunch of us wouldn’t need to see or drive to know we wanted it. This meme gets a lot of use around here for a reason.

Right? People keep talking about the decline of car culture and that people only think of cars as appliances, and here are a bunch of folks so thrilled by a car they’re camping out. This is like 50 or 60 years ago when people would wait outside dealerships when the new models came in. It’s cool. The car isn’t for me, but I appreciate the enthusiasm.

To each their own, we may all be Jalops but we definitely don’t buy cars the same way. People use that meme because it’s a joke, this is brass tacks.

Kinja'd!!! Honeybunchesofgoats > RyanFrew

Kinja'd!!!0

Exactly. I don’t see what people are complaining about.

Okay, people are buying it sight unseen. People buy Priuses after HAVING SEEN them. I’m not in the market for an EV, but if I were, I’d definitely consider throwing down effectively $25k for a car from Tesla. They have way too much to lose to risk screwing up.

You mean you didn’t like “sheep with money”? People often jest a car is just an appliance, and now it’s not a joke anymore.

I think Tesla’s cars, company, vision, and overall business model are great, and I’m glad that there is somebody shaking up an industry desperately in need of it.

That said, somebody needs to roll some coal on the people interviewed in that story.

I know Tesla gets a lot of lover around here. However these cars seem more like iPhones than cars.
